Arsenal vs Sheffield Wednesday (League Cup)

                                      League Cup Break?
Whatever happend to cup days like this?

Will a win for Sheffield be an upset or a relief for Arsenal??

     By Peter Scott

Arsenal head North for a League Cup break in Sheffield. Our opponents, Sheffield Wednesday, are sitting in 9th in the League Championship and even they probably look at this as an unnecessary interruption to their season. Nontheless Arsenal will probably benefit from this more thanWednesday as they have the larger squad with more players needing match practice for the season ahead.

With recent results in the Premiership and a squad that finally seems to be doing what Wenger has promised, again and again, over the last 12 months we are finally getting closer to the Arsenal of the early noughties that had depth and a need to blood youth

Expect Arsenal to offer a very changed side for this encounter against a Sheffield Wednesday side that has conceded more than a goal a game, without a player on more than three goals, Wenger will be quite comfortable using some of the more lesser known players such as, Gedion Zelalem and non starters like Arteta.

Wednesday have spread their goals out amongst their team with four players on three goals, but without a standout striker, they  will find this new Arsenal hard work.

Wednesdays forward, Fernando Forestieri was included in the Football League team of the week and as such is likely to be quite excited about testing his skills out against a top Premiership team. Looking on the Owls site (the official website of Sheffield Wednesday) the manager Carlos Carvalhal gives his team a 10% chance of progressing past this match but is keen to give it his all, as are his players.

Arsenal's next "real" match is  against Swansea this Saturday and the chance to cement their position at the top of the league. Followed closely by Bayern Munich and Tottenham all next week, the fixtures are coming in thick and fast.
Be back here tonight for a full report and stats on this match.

    Match kicks off at 19:45

Match Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday 1 - 2 Arsenal

A tough match with Wednesday fighting to show their Premiership potential and a chance at a good cup run. Arsenal with, what could be called, a less auspicious team made up of reserve players and youth team specials, are forced at the end to use a few regulars, from the bench, to ensure a result and future run outs for the squad players.
