Leicester snatch a dramatic draw away at Southampton, Match Report.

Southampton failed to capitalise on their impressive win against a Chelsea as a Jamie Vardy inspired Leicester produced an unlikely comeback.

The Saints stormed into a 2-0 lead as Jose Fonte and Virgil Van Dijk both scored for the hosts.

Fonte, who signed a new deal with the club, made it a week to remember for him as he celebrated by heading in a Dusan Tadic corner.

Defensive partner Van Dijk scored a close range tap-in after initially hitting the post with his first effort.

You can never count out this Leicester team as they have scored in every Premier League game this season.

Southampton could have out the game to bed as Sadio Mane rounded Kasper Schmeichel but delayed his shot for too long and the chance was gone.

Claudio Ranieri’s half time substitutions changed the game for the visitors with the introduction of Riyad Mahrez and Nathan Dyer.

The unlikely draw claimed by Leicester is the seventh time they have clawed back a point from a losing position.

Vardy scored the equaliser in the 91st minute as Mahrez played in the in-form striker. If he keeps up this form, he surely will be on a plane to France next year.

The 28-year-old became the fourth Englishmen to score in six consecutive Premier League matches this century.

The former Fleetwood Town striker, is playing with a double fracture to the wrist and with the injuries to Daniel SturrIdge and Danny Ings, he is looking to be in Roy Hodgson’s plans.

Southampton dominated the first half but Leicester had a greater attacking threat and the industrious Vardy.

Nathan Dyer, who started his career at Southampton, crossed for the Leicester striker to net his eighth goal of the season.

He (Vardy) then latched onto Mahrez precise pass to lash past Kelvin Davis in the Southampton goal.

The host tired in the latter stages of the match as 10 players had been on international duty in the past two weeks.

Leicester had 18 shots compared to the home sides four in the second half, which emphasised that the visitors’ were in the ascendency.

Ronald Koeman said that his team have to be more street wise as they let a two goal lead slip away but he acknowledge Saturday’s opponents deserved a point.

The former Chelsea boss recognised his side’s strength on the bench and has highlighted their never say die attitude that has been prevalent throughout this campaign.

Southampton still have reasons to be positive after they have extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to three but they face a difficult task with a trip to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

The Saints with their impressive run can head to Anfield with confidence bore out of the fact of their recent performances.
