Newcastle United vs Stoke City Preview. Newcastle look to continue scary statistic this Halloween.

Newcastle United will be looking to make it a hat-trick of Halloween victories when Stoke City make their way to St James’ Park this October 31st.

It is the time of year when we all embrace the spooky and the supernatural and Newcastle’s poor start to the season has definitely been somewhat of a horror show for their fans.

But as we approach the end of the month, the Geordie faithful will take great joy in knowing their side has performed well when they have played on Halloween in recent years.

Running away with two victories and scoring an impressive eight goals with just two conceded, Hallow’s Eve has been kind to the North East side.

The last time the Magpies played a Premier League game on October 31st, they were up against the team they face this weekend in Stoke and finished 3-1 winners courtesy of a Demba Ba hat-trick.

Their other Halloween victory came in a fixture every Newcastle fan will remember well, as it was the day their team thrashed rivals Sunderland 5-1 at home.

Now as the Potters travel to Tyneside, a win for the hosts would see the club secure a third Halloween win in a row and potentially see Steve McClaren’s side climb out of the relegation zone.

Mark Hughes’ men go into the game in some impressive form, having lost just one of their last seven games in all competitions, when they were beaten 2-0 by Watford last weekend.

Meanwhile Newcastle will have to pick themselves up and dust themselves off after losing the Wear-Tyne Derby 3-0 at the Stadium of Light.

Stoke do not have a good record at St James’ Park however, having just won once at the home of the Magpies in over 30 years.

But recent games against the North East side have went well for the visitors, as they have taken seven out of a possible nine points from the last three times the sides have faced off against each other.

Newcastle’s last win in this fixture came on Boxing Day 2013, when they dominated their opponents in a 5-1 victory which saw Glen Whelan and Marc Wilson red carded and Mark Hughes sent to the stands.

McClaren will be glad to call on the services of his captain Fabricio Coloccini after the defender’s derby day red card was rescinded following an appeal from the club.

But the game will come too soon for Jack Colback, who was forced off early at the Stadium of Light as a result of a heavy tackle from Lee Cattermole.

The midfielder joins Tim Krul, Gabriel Obertan, Karl Darlow, Steven Taylor and Emmanuel Riviere on Newcastle’s lengthy injury list.

Stoke will hope Glen Johnson and Jonathan Walters will both be fit for the game, as the pair try to recover from recent knocks.

Geoff Cameron and Marc Muniesa will not be available for the fixture however as they are both believed to be out of action until mid November.

Hughes will also be without defender Phil Bardsley, who will miss the game through suspension following his late red card in Stoke’s cup win over Chelsea in midweek.

Newcastle produced a strong performance against Norwich two weeks ago and looked set to defeat Sunderland up until Coloccini’s controversial sending off before half time.

With this in mind, Stoke should be an opponent McClaren’s side should feel confident of securing a win against but it will be anything but easy for the Magpies.

Failure to secure all three points this Halloween is certainly a haunting prospect for Newcastle, whose relegation fears are quickly becoming more and more frightening.

Score Prediction: Newcastle United 3-1 Stoke City
