    Sherwood Sacked

Tim Sherwood has been sacked as manager of Aston Villa. This comes after a fourth defeat in a row. When asked about the situation after the match, Sherwood was still adamant that Aston Villa would not get relegated and that he would continue in his position. After Sunderland beat their North East rivals, Villa are rooted bottom of the Premier League.

Bookmakers suspended betting on the situation earlier today so the decision doesn't come as a surprise to many. The Aston Villa faithful will now be looking towards the Chief Executive Tom Fox for a reaction.

The timing of the announcement comes at a good time for the Aston Villa hierarchy with the Wear-Tyne and Manchester Derby taking place. This ensures that the coverage from the press is limited.

David Moyes is currently the favourite to succeed Sherwood. Rumours from the Moyes’ backroom staff would suggest he is interested in a move back to the Premier League.

The club has recently released a statement:

‘Aston Villa Football Club has parted company with manager Tim Sherwood today.’
‘The Board has monitored the performances closely all season and believes the results on the pitch were simply not good enough and that a change is imperative.’
‘However, the Club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Tim for all his efforts during a difficult period last season and for the many positive contributions he has made to the entire football setup during his time with the Club. We wish him well in the future.’
‘Assistant manager Ray Wilkins, first-team coach Mark Robson and performance analyst Seamus Brady have also left with immediate effect and do so with our best wishes.’
‘A search for a new manager has commenced and the squad will be managed in the interim by Kevin MacDonald.’
‘There will be no further comment from the Club at this stage.’
