Southampton look to extend their winning run against Leicester, Match Preview.

Southampton return to Premier League action this weekend after the international break and Ronald Koeman’s men will be hoping to keep up their good form.

A 3-1 win over Chelsea, was the Saints first win at Stamford Bridge since 2002. When the current Scottish manager Gordon Strachan masterminded a famous victory.

What was more impressive than the victory against Jose Mourinho’s struggling outfit was the nature of their display.
Slick short passing combined with the counter-attacking threat of Graziano Pelle, Dusan Tadic, and Sadio Mane dismantled a poor Chelsea defence.

The Saints won the LG Performance Of The Week after the win against Chelsea and it is the fourth time they have won the award under Koeman.

Southampton have won two matches in a row for the first time since they defeated Vitesse Arnhem in the Europa league back in July.

Jordy Clasie has been training this week and should be in his managers’ plans to make his first league debut in the famous red and white shirt.

Shane Long suffered an ankle injury on international duty with the Republic of Ireland and the 28-year-old will be unavailable for two to four weeks.

Much to Koeman’s relief the rest of the squad have returned injury free after the qualifying campaign for Euro 2016 was finally completed.

Maya Yoshida and Sadio Mane provide the former Barcelona defender with decisions to make on their inclusion due to their long distance flights as they played for Japan and Senegal.

The Dutchman who replaced Mauricio Pochettino is delighted with his star striker’s performance in front of goal.

The Italian Graziano Pelle has scored nine goals in all competitions already so far this term and his manager has backed him to beat last year’s tally of 18.

Team captain Jose Fonte has signed a new three-year deal that will keep the Portuguese international at Southampton until 2018.

The 31-year-old defender has played a key role in Saints rise from League One to the lofty heights of the Premier League.

Ronald Koeman acknowledged Fonte’s contribution and he believed he warrants his new deal as his form has been outstanding since his arrival at the club.

Leicester could be without Riyad Mahrez and Jeffrey Schlupp, who has been a key part of Claudio Ranieri’s side. The pair did not train on Thursday.

Last seasons’ corresponding fixtures resulted in 2-0 wins for the home side. Shane Long scored two at St Mary’s, Whilst Mahrez hit the back of the net twice at the King Power Stadium.

A point to be worried for Saints fans this weekend, Leicester have won more points from losing positions than any team in the Premier League this season.

The Foxes have not kept a clean sheet so far and that is a positive for Southampton as they look to keep up their unbeaten run.
