    Stoke City 0 - Watford 2 Match Report

    On the anniversary of Mark Hughes's 100th game as manager of Stoke City Football Club, Watford were in no mood to let the occasion pass them by & fall victim to what would have been Stoke's second home win of the season. The Hertfordshire based club clearly didn't read the script & left the Britannia with all three points & a clean sheet.

    Watford made one change with Uruguayan Miguel Britos making his league debut to help strengthen a defence that conceded three goals at home to Arsenal the previous week. There was to be a change in the Stoke defence too on 9 minutes after Geoff Cameron had to be replaced by Marc Wilson, who had one of those afternoons that he will be eager to forget in a hurry. On the 37th minute the visitors two most potent threat Odion Ighalo & Troy Deeney struck the Stoke crossbar. Six minutes later Watford's captain was not to be denied & his low finish into the bottom corner gave him his first Premier League goal.

    Stoke's attack was proving as inept as the defence & club record signing Xherdan Shaqiri was the perfect embodiment of that. It came as no surprise then that the Jonathan Walters replaced the Swiss international on the hour mark. Nine minutes after that change the Hornets doubled their lead through Almen Abdi who took advantage of Ighalo's industry after he dispossessed the hapless Marc Wilson to get his second assist of the game.

    Prior to the game Quique Sanchez Flores was reminiscing about the year that the Stoke manager was a Barcelona player & their duels that season in Spain. How Hughes would have loved a player of that ilk today after watching his Stoke defence being run ragged by Watford's striking duo. "Their two guys up front demand service and they managed to mess us around at the back.

    "We will be better than that. At 1-0 down we tried to change things around because we couldn't make any headway. We then made an individual error when Marc Wilson lost the ball leading up to the second goal." This was Watford's first ever win in the month of October during their spells in the Premier League & with Deeney & Ighalo in this form they may have a fighting chance of remaining in the division & having the opportunity to add to the catalogue of October wins.
