    Swansea vs Arsenal (Match Preview)

    Are the Swan's in trouble???

Or are the gunners in for more heartache?

It's all kicking off in the West!

When the South East goes West...

...You get a match between Swansea and Arsenal.

    by Peter Scott

Could this match come at the right time for Wenger? Is this the match that decides the future of Gary Monk; we will all know by this evening.

Wenger's Arsenal let us all down mid-week with a display from players that Wenger described as "not ready". A damning statement given that the squad consisted of his first team captain and nine internationals, at least five of them regulars.

Swansea on the other hand have just achieved their first away win of the season against a diminishing Aston Villa side, rooted to the bottom of the league, who sacked their manager on what we can only assume was on the strength of that game.

Gary Monk, the saviour of Swansea, has been looking over his shoulder of late, as despite all that he has done for the club, recent results have gone against them; until the Villa game that hadn't won a game in their last six. It should also be noted that the last game they won (before Villa) was against Manchester United.

With two teams having a lot to prove at this stage of the season it comes down to strength in depth and mentality.

In Arsenal's last game a lot was said about the mentality of a the team after losing two first team players, to injury, within  the first 20 minutes. It seems that the two players in question, Oxlade Chamberlain and Walcott are not going to play today, and only might be able to return after the international break; Oxlade more likely to be the first to return.

How Wenger will prepare his team for the match ahead only Wenger knows... what is certain is that Giroud has a great chance to re-establish his first team credentials and hang-up the super-sub role he has been carrying of late. Rumour has it that Campbell will be getting his first start of the season in this match too. A lot of uncharted ground and dangerous elements in a potentially dogged match.

I have not been to excited by Campbell when he has played for Arsenal and most of his greatness has been for his national team and rumours from the Arsenal training ground. We heard similar things about Arshavin.

Giroud has been hot and cold of late and I would argue that his battle with Walcott has brought the best out of him, it would be a huge blow for the team of that element disappeared because of a silly, avoidable injury to Walcott.

Gary Monk isn't without his issues, with results not going his way, but only having Wayne Routledge on the injury list is not his greatest problem, getting this team to pick themselves up and recreate the performances that got them to the Premiership, kept them there, and got them a winning result against the resurgent Manchester United is going to be the biggest issue of the day.

That being said Swansea could be like Arsenal, hard to get motivated for the little matches, whilst playing the role of gladiators in the big match.

Like Leicester, Swansea like to come out to play so I expect a game of at least 4 goals, not sure where they will go but the safe  money bet is with Arsenal to bounce back to their winning ways and Giroud to score a brace.

    Prediction - Swansea 0 Arsenal 4

    Facts:
    • Swansea did the double on Arsenal last season, beating them 2-1 and 0-1.
    • In Head to heads (all time) Swansea have won 7 and Arsenal have won 9
    • The highest scoring match was a 3 - 2 victory to Swansea in Jan 2012 (Premiership)
