Watford 0-3 Arsenal - Alexis Sanchez strikes again

    By Alex Easley
Alexis Sanchez celebrates the first Arsenal goal at Watford.
Three goals in 12 minutes in the second-half gave Arsenal a 3-0 win over Watford at Vicarage Road, sending them back to second spot in the Premier League table.

Chile international Alexis Sanchez gave the Gunners the lead on 62 minutes after good work from Mesut Ozil and Santi Carzola in a quick counter-attack.

Ozil was provider again just four minutes later, cutting the ball back for Olivier Giroud to double Arsenal’s lead.

Welshman Aaron Ramsay added a third on 74 minutes, guiding home via a deflection after a break from Hector Bellerin.

The right back surged into the box and set up Ramsay, who scored his first league goal of the campaign at the end of a week which saw Wales book their place at next summer’s European Championships.

The win sees Arsenal in second place, two points behind league leaders Manchester City, while Watford sit in 14th.

Ramsay wasted Arsenal’s best chance of the first half on 27 minutes, scooping over from four yards after a pinpoint cross from Sanchez.

Just moments later Watford striker Odion Ighalo panicked in front of goal despite his recent run of scoring.

Ighalo was bearing down on Petr Cech but side-footed wide from eight yards under pressure from Nacho Monreal.

Sanchez was continually bright, testing Heurelho Gomes with a fierce 25-yard drive inside the first five minutes.

Both sides had opportunities as the first half wore on, Troy Deeney broke clear only to let down Ighalo with a poor final ball, before Bellerin burst past loanee Nathan Ake after linking up with Ramsay, however the right back failed to pick out an unmarked Monreal at the back post.

Arsene Wenger’s side caught the hosts on the counter several times after the break, and the Hornets fell behind just after the hour mark.

Etienne Capoue went down on the edge of Arsenal’s box with Watford committed forward, but the referee didn’t give the foul and the Gunners broke through with Cazorla and Ozil.

The German midfielder skipped through and was upended in the Watford box by Ake, but Sanchez followed up to put the ball in the net.
Sanchez puts Arsenal in front at Vicarage Road.
Quique Sanchez Flores’ side struggled to react to the opening goal and tired in the second half, Capoue and Deeney were both suffering from cramp, this allowed substitute Giroud to capitalise on more poor defending to put his side 2-0 up.

Sanchez and Ozil were again involved, as the latter set up Giroud to help the ball past Gomes with his right foot.

Ramsay then punished Watford further by scoring Arsenal’s third as his defelcted effort wrong-footed the Watford keeper.

Bellerin provided the assist after a surging run down the righ flank, capping a terrific game from the young full-back.

Deeney continued to work hard for his side even in the final stages, but the Watford skipper has now had the most shots without scoring in the Premier League this season – 23.
