Manchester City V Southampton, Match Preview

Southampton put their unbeaten away record on the line as they travel to the Etihad to face Manchester City.

The Saints lost 1-0 at home to an improving Stoke side as former Barcelona prodigy Bojan scored the decisive goal.

Manchester City were on the receiving end of a 4-1 defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. Last weekend’s loss was their second at home this season after West Ham won at the Etihad earlier this season.

The only positive was the return of Sergio Aguero, the Argentinian underlined his importance to the Citizens’ as he scored his seventh goal of this Premier League campaign.

On Wednesday night, Manuel Pellegrini’s team were on the wrong side of a 1-0 reverse against Juventus in the Champions League.

Ronald Koeman remains focused on this weekend’s game despite having a tough run of fixtures in the next eight days.

After this weekend, Southampton face Liverpool in the Carling Cup quarter-final at St Mary’s. Then Aston Villa then travel to the South Coast on the following Saturday.

    Team News

To make matters worse, Joe Hart limped off with a hamstring side in Turin. The former Villarreal boss is hopeful that England’s number one will make Saturday’s match but he is confident in Willy Caballero as a viable option.

The 62-year-old confirmed Vincent Kompany will be out for two weeks and Pablo Zabaleta and Eliaquim Mangala are both doubts.

Wilfried Bony and David Silva could feature this weekend. The Spanish playmaker injured his ankle whilst on international duty and has been absent for seven weeks.

Southampton’s Jay Rodriguez faces 8 weeks on the side-lines after successfully undergoing surgery on his ankle.

Fraser Forster and Florin Gardos are out of the trip to Manchester while Graziano Pelle is serving a suspension after picking up his fifth yellow card against Stoke.
