Lionel Messi told Juan Sebastian Veron that he'd love to play for Inter Milan. But the ex-player believes it is impossible for him to leave the Nou Camp.

The former Manchester United & Chelsea midfielder claims his fellow Argentinian once admitted that he would love to play for Inter Milan.

Messi scored the opener for Barcelona in their 3-0 victory over River Play in the Club World Cup this weekend. He lifted the trophy for the third time in his career for the Spanish Club, where he's played all his life.

But Veron, who also played in Serie A with Parma and Inter Milan as well as his English clubs, claims Messi was once interested in an Italian move.

"It's been a few years but one time he told me he would like to play for Inter"

"But let me be clear, this was something that happened in the past"

"Massimo Moratti was still the owner of Inter and, frankly, I see it impossible for Leo to leave Barcelona"

Messi's Barcelona are currently level with Athletico Madrid on 35 points at the top of La Liga but Luis Enrique's side have played 16 games, one less that Diego Simeone's, due to their Club World Cup run.

Inter Milan lead Serie A on 36 points, one clear of Fiorentinaand Napoli.
