    Southampton v Arsenal Match Preview.

    What a difference a year makes, Southampton were sitting pretty in fifth two points ahead of Arsenal, who visit St Mary’s on Boxing day.
    Right now the Saints’ are languishing in 12th position and Ronald Koeman’s men are without a win in six Premier league matches.
    Maarten Stekelenburg is expected to be available for selection after recovering from a toe injury. Paulo Gazzaniga (below) has been in goal for Southampton recently and Ronald Koeman has a decision to make,

    Arsenal beat champions Manchester City 2-1 on last Monday and they are in a stunning vein of form.
    West Brom and Chelsea are the only two teams to have beaten the Gunners so far this season. With the victory against Premier League rivals City they are two points behind leaders Leicester City.

    Mesut Ozil (below) has been the standout performer for Arsene Wenger’s men. The German playmaker has 15 assists and two goals in 16 Premier League matches.

    Arsene Wenger told BBC Sport that he recognises that Southampton are struggling but has warned his side not to underestimate this weekend’s opponents: “When you look at their team, they have the potential to be a very strong team. We have to convince ourselves that we again need another top-level performance."

    Alexis Sanchez is out until mid-January as well as Mikel Arteta, Jack Wilshere, Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla and Danny Welbeck. Quite a list of injuries for Arsenal, if they get those players back in 2016 this could be their best chance of winning the Premier League since the invisible side of 2004.

    Southampton have scored just twice in five matches and only taken one point and the club have been spiralling towards the bottom of the table: “I do my job, I do my best for the club and do what I have to do, and nothing else.

    "I am of course worried, because it's a bad run, “ Koeman told BBC Sport.

    Arsenal have lost one of the 11 meetings against Southampton. That defeat came in the last meeting with Saints winning 2-0 on New Years’ Day.

    They have not gone six  consecutive league games without a win under Ronald Koeman.
    Southampton have lost just one of their last seven Premier League games on Boxing Day. (W3, D3).

    Arsenal have a 100 % record in December, with three wins in the Premier League and one in the Champions’ League.
    Five of Arsenal’s six league titles have come after they were in second place at Christmas.
    Petr Cech has 169 Premier League clean sheets and needs one more to set a new record ahead of David James.
