    Southampton v Aston Villa match preview

    Southampton face Aston Villa this weekend as Ronald Koeman’s side will be looking for an improvement on their recent form.

    Liverpool put six past the Saints in the Carling Cup on Tuesday. Sadio Mane provided the only consolation with a goal in just 39 seconds.

    Daniel Sturridge scored two on his return from injury. Jordan Ibe scored his first goal under Jurgen Klopp and Divock Origi scored a hat-trick in the famous red shirt.

    Last weekend, Southampton lost 3-1 to Manchester City at the Etihad. On the 21st of November, Stoke visited St Mary’s and Mark Hughes’ improving side won 1-0 courtesy of a Bojan goal in the 10th minute.

    Aston Villa come to the South Coast on Saturday and they currently prop up the Premier League table in 20th.

    The visit of the Villans could not come at a better time for Koeman as he seeks to find a solution to his side’s slump in form.

    Jose Fonte might be available for selection as he missed the Carling Cup defeat to Liverpool with a cut knee.

    Graziano Pelle featured in that match after his suspension.

    Aston Villa could be without two key defenders as Ciaran Clark is banned and Micah Richards is recovering from a knee injury.

    Jack Grealish has been left out of the squad as punishment for going out after the 4-0 loss away at Everton.

    Jores Okore may make his first start of the season whilst Gabby Agbonlahor has overcome a calf injury.

    There total of one point from the last 10 matches is fewer than any other Premier League team has earned over the same period.
