Tottenham Hotspur vs Newcastle United Preview.

Newcastle United travel to White Hart Lane this weekend knowing a win against in-form Tottenham Hotspur will ease the North East side’s relegation fears.

The Magpies are currently sat in the Premier League drop zone but after a fantastic result against Liverpool last weekend, another win would see Steve McClaren’s side move out of the bottom three.

It is a situation few Newcastle fans would have believed to be possible after looking at the Tyneside team’s daunting Christmas fixtures.

But a spirited performance at St James’ Park last Sunday saw them take all three points and give their fans faith that their side can avoid being dragged into yet another season-long relegation scrap.

Taking victory at the Capitol will be no easy task however, as Tottenham have been one of the league’s most difficult sides to take on this campaign.

Spurs have not lost in the Premier League since their opening day defeat at the hands of Manchester United at the start of the season.

The London club have played some good football under Mauricio Pochettino this year and after overpowering Monaco 4-1 in Europe in midweek, Tottenham will go in to this weekend’s game with plenty of confidence.

Newcastle have won the last two occasions they have played Spurs at White Hart Lane in the league but Tottenham did claim a devastating 4-0 victory in the Captial One Cup last season.

Pochettino’s side also claimed victory the last time the two sides faced off against each other at St James’ Park.

Spurs have been guilty of drawing games they should be winning this campaign, having drawn more than half of their league games this season (8).

But there is little chance of this contest finishing level, as there has not been a draw played out in the league between the two sides at White Hart Lane since 1995.

Newcastle travel to London with a squad which has been depleted by injuries in recent months and McClaren will be without 10 first team players.

Tim Krul, Curtis Good, Steven Taylor, Massadio Haidara, Mike Williamson, Jamal Lascelles, Cheick Tiote, Rolando Aarons, Gabriel Obertan and Emmanual Riviere will all be unavailable for the game against Spurs.

Tottenham on the other hand have plenty of options to choose from, as they only have Ryan Mason, Alex Pritchard, Moussa Dembele and Clinton N’Jie missing through injury.

This game could potentially be the toughest test Newcastle have faced all season, as they prepare to take on a Tottenham team who do not give away many goals and have a serious goal-threat in Harry Kane leading the line.

But if the Magpies can play as passionately as they did against Liverpool last weekend then they are in with a chance of snatching a shock result.

Score Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 Newcastle United
