FA Cup: Micah Richards confrontation with Villa supporters after Wycombe draw

After scoring to help Aston Villa to a 1-1 draw away at Wycombe Wanderers in the Fa Cup 3rd Round, Aston Villa captain Micah Richards was involved in a confrontation with a section of travelling Villa supporters.

It was evident that supporters were becoming frustrated during the match after chanting "you don't know what you're doing", and booing towards manager Remi Garde after substituting Carles Gil for French midfielder Jordan Veretout after 71 minutes.

Richards was backed and described as 'brave' by manager Garde for confronting the supporters after being taken off in the 83rd minute. Garde also added 'As a professional we have to face responsibilities, not only Micah. But it was brave he did that'.

The Villa captain then explained to a section of Villa supporters that the players were giving their all and that constant booing was not going to help their situation.

Unfortunately, Richards's words of wisdom, and his attempts to reason with the supporters did not appear to work as fans appeared to continue shouting obscenities at the Villa team as they boarded the team coach after the match.

However, on twitter it appeared that some supporters praised Richards for his honesty and views after listening to them behind the dugout during the match.

Despite the supporters disappointment during this match, Aston Villa can still reach the FA Cup 4th round if they win the replay on Tuesday 19th January 2016 with a reward of a possible showdown at home to Manchester City.
