Klopp's Liverpool open talks with world class Barcelona keeper

Liverpool have entered discussions with Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, according to RMC Sport football editor Mohamed Bouhafsi.

However, the France-based journalist added that Barcelona have not yet been approached about a deal.

Bouhafsi claims that despite Jurgen Klopp's denial, the German's priority is to add a new shot-stopper after a string of wobbly displays from current first choice Simon Mignolet.

Klopp will be extremely familiar with Ter Stegen, who spent four seasons in the Borussia Monchengladbach first team while he was manager of Dortmund.

The 23-year-old joined Barca for a reported £8m in summer 2014, but has been used predominantly as the Catalans' cup goalkeeper.

Despite helping Luis Enrique's side to the Champions League and Copa del Rey in his first season at Camp Nou, Ter Stegen has made just 33 appearances for his current employers.

Recent reports claimed he had to be talked around by teammate Dani Alves after he failed to feature at the recent Club World Cup in Japan, which Barca won.

Ter Stegen was said to have quickly left the field and took little part in the ensuing celebrations.

Klopp recently described Mignolet, who kept more clean sheets than any Premier League goalkeeper in 2015, as "one of the smartest 'keepers I have ever had".

He said: "We have enough high quality goalkeepers, I’ve had a lot of goalkeepers over last few years and Simon Mignolet is one of the smartest I have ever had.

"He is completely open and he’s young enough to develop, to improve. He’s not had the easiest situation before I came here, but since I have been here there has been nothing to criticise, absolutely nothing. He’s a good football player."

Liverpool signed Hungary goalkeeper Adam Bogdan from Bolton Wanderers last summer, but the 28-year-old has failed to impress when called upon so far.
