Premier League Best XI: 2nd-3rd Jan - Are Chelsea Back?

This weekend saw Liverpool get seen off by West Ham causing Jurgen Klopp for the first time to get angry with his team and he let them know it. Arsenal extended their lead at the top as they scraped to 1-0 and Leicester drew 0-0 for the second successive game. The weekend also saw glimpses of a possible Chelsea revival as they comfortably saw off Crystal Palace on Sunday.

This is the round up of the best players from the weekend and why they deserve to be there:

Artur Boruc (GK) - The Bournemouth keeper helped keep out Leicester at the weekend keeping out a Riyad Mahrez penalty in the process. Lately Bournemouth have mounted a survival fight. They have been struck by injuries but Artur Boruc will be pivotal if they are to stay up.

Jonny Evans (Def) - The West Brom didn't manage a clean sheet at the weekend however he scored a dramatic late winner in a 2-1 win over Stoke. Under Tony Pulis West Brom don't concede many goals at all and Jonny Evans is one of the key figures in their defence.

James Collins (Def) - The West Ham centre-back had an exceptional game on Saturday afternoon keeping Christian Benteke at bay for the entire match with endless interceptions. He was the man of the match and kept a well deserved clean sheet.

Laurent Koscielny (Def)(Star Man) - The Arsenal centre-back is the sole reason why Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the league. He put a quality performance in at the back and popped up at a corner to get his name on the scoresheet.

Oscar (Mid) - The Brazilian playmaker looked like a new man from the rest of the season as he was dominating the ball for Chelsea. He scored the first after a ball across the box and also set up Willian for his wonder-strike.

Willian (Mid) - Joining his Brazil and Chelsea team-mate Oscar in the best team of the week he has been Chelsea's best player all season and possibly the only one who can be resonably happy with his performances. He scored the second and provided the assist for Diego Costa to tap in.

Alex Tettey (Mid) - Norwich have been impressive in recent weeks putting together some decent form. Tettey was the man to win the game at the weekend as the game looked to be a nailed on 0-0 he curled a fantastic goal past Fraser Forster in the Southampton goal.

Stephane Sessegnon (Mid) - After spending most of the season on the sidelines he was given the chance this weekend and showed exactly what he can do. Sessegnon got West Brom off to the perfect start with a rifled finish into the top of the net.

Anthony Martial (ST) - Since the first few games Martial has been very average and hasn't really paid back the money that was spent on him. He took another step to doing that this weekend as he scored the first and set up the second as Manchester United won for the first time in what feel like forever.

Diego Costa (ST) - Ever since Chelsea changed their manager the players seem to be much happier and willing to put a shift in, none more so than Diego Costa who seems like a rejuvenated player and scoring the third and assisting for Oscar will certainly impress the fans and his manager.

Jermain Defoe (ST) - If Sunderland are going to stay up then it is this man who will do it for them. Defoe scores goals at every club he has been at. He added another 2 to his premier league tally this weekend as Sunderland found a crucial win in a '6 - pointer' against Aston Villa.

The FA Cup takes over next weekend so no points are on offer but make sure to watch out for any injuries picked up over the next couple of weeks. Overall this weekend wasn't the best for points scoring with the average being only 40 points.
