Transfer Speculation - Is Adebayor heading back to the Prem?

Former Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham forward Emmanuel Adebayor is rumoured to be a transfer target for Crystal Palace.

Palace manager Alan Pardew has admitted that the Togolese star is an option he is thinking about due to the lack of goals from his current forwards.

He has stated that "It is something that is in our mix, and we'll have to wait and see.

"You want to try and bring in a quality player, and so therefore you can't dismiss anyone"

Adebayor has scored 96 league goals in 230 career appearances with Premier League clubs.

Adebayor turns 32 on his next birthday, and is currently without a club since he was released from Tottenham by mutual consent in September 2015, but with Palace the lowest league goal scorers with 22 goals amongst the league's top 12 teams, it is an option worth considering.

There are limited options in the January transfer window with managers sometimes reluctant to buy players if they are cup-tied for example, however Adebayor would not fall into that category.

It seems like an ideal choice for Pardew as he says that "90% of them are not available they're at clubs, and they're on good contracts, and the clubs want them because they are successful".

However one of the possible stumbling blocks for Palace would be the potential high wage demands for Adebayor as he still currently earns reportedly £100,000 per week from Tottenham as his old contract would have expired at the end of this season.

Pardew also admits that the club has to look at whether the move would benefit the club and the player. "It is a question of ourselves looking at that one and wondering where the right club for him is and whether he is the right player for us".

According to Sky Sports, Palace have recently stated that Dwight Gayle is free to leave the club on a permanent deal which would pave the way for Adebayors potential arrival.

Pardew has admitted that some players may have to go, but he hopes to keep as many as possible. "There haven't really been too many rumours about our players going out, and I hope it stays like that".

Crystal Palace's next match is Saturday 16th January at 3pm away at Manchester City.
