    Liverpool Summer 2016-2017 Transfer Latest

Liverpool are set to confirm their 6th new signing of the summer as Newcastle midfielder, Georginio Wijnaldum, looks to be on the move to Anfield.

The 25-year-old Dutchman has only been at Newcastle for one season so far when he signed a five-year contract, and a figure of around £25m is how much Newcastle want for the player.

Wijnaldum, is reported to undergo a medical on Friday ahead of the move to Anfield with his specific role unclear due to his ability to play in a number of different positions, however playing as a number 10 or as a centre midfielder will most likely be his main positions at Liverpool. This is due to Jurgen Klopps usual formation of a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation from last season.
Wijnaldum scored 11 goals in the Premier League for Newcastle last season in what was a poor season with the club getting relegated. All his goals came at St James’s Park, but regardless of where they were scored it is worth mentioning that he still managed to score more goals in the League last season than any current Liverpool player, and top Premier League players such as Dele Alli, Mesut Ozil, Eden Hazard and Christian Eriksen.

The big question is with a substantial transfer fee being quoted to bring him to the club, it is assumed that he will be a regular in the starting 11, but with a range of attacking midfielder options already at Anfield such as; Mane, Firmino, Coutinho, Ojo and Lallana, it could be big competition for places.

With Liverpool already acquiring Sadio Mane from Southampton and Serbian Marko Grujic who have both impressed in Liverpool’s friendly matches so far, Wijnaldum can potentially add more goals, pace and power to the team. Of course this is not guaranteed as with most players, however if he settles in quickly and has a regular spot in the team, then it should make Liverpool a stronger side next season to improve on their disappointing 8th position finish last season.
Liverpool are currently in the USA on a pre-season tour, so it is expected that Wijnaldum will join them if he completes his medical and all other formalities.

Liverpool confirmed summer signings so far: (Approximate cost in £ = millions)
Marko Grujic – Red Star Belgrade - £5.1
Joel Matip – Schalke - Free
    Loris Karius – Mainz - £4.7
    Sadio Mane – Southampton - £34
    Ragnar Klavan – Augsburg - £4.2

    Alex Manninger - Free
