West Brom v Tottenham Hotspur Preview: Mousa Dembele a doubt for Spurs

    By Alex Easley
Midefielder Mousa Dembele is a doubt for Tottenham's trip to West Brom on Saturday.
Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the Premier League when they visit the Hawthorns to take on West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon.

This is the first time in Spurs’ history that the club have gone unbeaten in their opening seven Premier League matches.

While Harry Kane has been side-lined due to injury, Son Heung-Min has led the attack and has been involved in eight goals in his last seven league games (six goals and two assists).

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino said: "Now we must be clever and we need to understand that it will be a tough game, maybe more difficult than Manchester City.

"If we're not focused, or if we don't play with the same intensity, the same passion, we will suffer a lot against a team that is very physical and strong.

"In the Premier League you can never play 80 or 70% of your capacity, you always need to be 100%."

Meanwhile, West Brom have won just two of their previous 16 Premier League games, but a win over Spurs would give them their best start to a season since 2012/2013 when they amassed 14 points from their first eight games.

West Brom head coach Tony Pulis: "Spurs didn't get over the line last year but that will make them more determined. They're a good, young side and it'll be tough.

"Pochettino's teams are well coached. They work up and down the pitch exceptionally well. They've got real talent."
West Brom head coach Tony Pulis praised his opposition ahead of the game.
    TEAM NEWS

West Brom will check on Salomon Rondon and Darren Fletcher ahead of Tottenham's visit.

The Venezuela striker only returned from international duty in South America on Thursday and Baggies boss Tony Pulis will assess him for fatigue, while midfielder Fletcher suffered a dead leg when he was away with Scotland and he too will be monitored.

If Rondon is not fit, Pulis must decide whether to give Hal Robson-Kanu his first start or play Saido Berahino against the club who made several attempts to buy him in successive transfer windows.

Meanwhile, Mousa Dembele is struggling with a foot injury for Spurs.

Dembele had just recovered from a hamstring strain when his left foot was stamped on in training and the Belgium international is now a doubt for this weekend's trip to the Hawthorns.

Kane remains side-lined with an ankle ligament injury while Son and Erik Lamela will be assessed following long excursions on international duty.

    MATCH FACTS

    Head-to-head

West Brom have won just one of their last 13 Premier League meetings with Tottenham, drawing seven and losing five.

The Baggies' last victory at home over Spurs was by 2-0 in December 2008, when Roman Bednar and Craig Beattie scored.

West Brom held Tottenham to a 1-1 draw in both league matches last season. Nine of the 20 Premier League clashes between these sides have ended all-square.

    West Bromwich Albion

West Brom's next four fixtures are against Tottenham (h), Liverpool (a), Manchester City (h) and Leicester (a).

Their passing accuracy of 68% is the lowest in the division this season. They have also attempted the fewest passes (2055).

Nacer Chadli has scored three goals in four Premier League games for the Baggies, as many as he managed in his previous 30 while playing for Tottenham.

Chadli has been involved in five of West Brom's last six league goals (three goals, two assists).

    Tottenham

This is Tottenham's best start to a top-flight season since they opened their 1960-61 title-winning campaign with 11 straight wins.

They could go unbeaten in their opening eight league matches of a season for the first time since 1990.

Spurs have conceded just three goals this season, fewer than any other top-flight side.

Christian Eriksen has had 18 shots in the Premier League, the most of any player yet to score in 2016-17.

Dele Alli has created 66 chances from open play in the Premier League since the start of last season, more than any other Englishman in that period.
