BREAKING: United set to offer Zlatan new deal

Manchester United are set to take up the option to give star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic a one year extension to his contract. United manager José Mourinho announced the news earlier today in his pre-match press conference ahead of Thursday night's Europa League clash against Feyenoord.

The majority of Manchester United fans will be over the moon with the news due to the experience that Zlatan provides and the ego he possesses.

The thirty-five-year old secured his move from Paris Saint-Germain in July, where he scored an incredible 149 goals in 157 appearances. The superstar signed on a free transfer, with a one year contract, and the option of a further 12 months.

Zlatan's amazing track-record didn't go unnoticed and Manchester United fans were expecting more of the same from the off.

Since his arrival, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has scored eight goals in 17 appearances. One of the most discussed of these coming against Leicester City back in August, as he scored the winner in this year's Community Shield. Zlatan's early form continued as he managed to bag three goals in his first four Premier League appearances for the club.

However, since scoring against Manchester City in September, the Swede striker has struggled for form, only managing to score 3 goals in his last 10 appearances for the Red Devils. Despite this poor form, the striker is more than capable of being a key player for the club, and is likely to bounce back in coming weeks.

As a result, Manchester United fans will be looking for the club to renew his contract very soon and this seems increasing likely after José Mourinho stated that "the Zlatan situation is simple."

"He has a one plus one year in the club.. We are happy with him, we are going to execute the option of a second season, after that he can do what he wants"

Ibrahimovic himself is also keen to agree a deal and states that "the second year goes automatic after one - so that is no word from me or no word from them".

The former Sweden international also declared that despite wanting the deal to happen, "we haven't made any discussions" as of yet.

This shouldn't phase any Manchester United fan though, as discussions grow imminently closer to being a reality and the striker should be tied up for another season at Old Trafford very soon.

Zlatan will look to broaden his already crammed trophy cabinet in the game, and Manchester United fans should look forward to another year with one of the best strikers that has ever graced the modern game.
