Winners and losers from Arsenal 2 Paris saint Germain 2

An enthralling second leg tie between Arsenal and Paris-saint germain I look back on some of the winners and losers of the fixture

PSG seemed to once again squander the chance to take control of group A by failing to capitalise on an excellent attacking performance at the Emirates, once again Arsenal failed to perform but did not get beaten. Arsenal and PSG remain level on points at the peak of group A.

    Winner and loser: Edinson Cavani

The Uruguayan poacher opened the scoring for the match by bundling in a matuidi cross and continued his goal scoring run of 9 goals in 10 games (16 out of 16 overall). He show cased his complete centre forward play, running the channels and dragging the arsenal centre halves into precarious areas of the field and countlessly timed his runs to the near post and in behind the Arsenal back four to perfection. However. Unai Emery, the coach of PSG will no doubt be disappointed by the glorious chances missed in the second half, a horrendous effort of a chip when through on goal the most embarrassing of the lot. "El Matador", will certainly have to regain the composure and class in front of goal soon if PSG want to progress to the latter stages of the Champions league. He has a lot to do if he is to live up to the nickname bestowed upon him for ironically, his "finishing ability" prior to his transfer to PSG from Napoli. The clinical edge is clearly there, but so is the tendency to be clinically average

    Loser: Arsenal

Arsene Wenger's men needed to win too secure top seed in group A and have any chance of missing the likes of Atletico Madrid, Real, Barcelona and Juventus in the knockout stages, but due to the head to head rule, PSG currently rank top solely on the purpose of there 2 away goals scored at the Emirates, compared to Arsenals sole goal in the previous fixtures 1-1 draw at the Parc de princes.
There was talk of a potential run deep into Europe, sparked by a winnable group during the group stage draws and promising performances since the start of the new seasons, but that task has become more dream like after the serious of abject performances. Unbeaten since August, that statistic doesn't tell of there recent lack of points and disappointments . 3 consecutive draws against Tottenham, Manchester United and PSG may signal an inability to get results when they really matter, fans will hope this blip subsides soon and regain there fluid and dynamic performances seen up until the international break. Food for thought for Arsene Wenger as the gunners succumb to the fantasied "November curse". Again. But they managed to do enough to match PSG and earn a draw, if performances  improve maybe Champions league semi finals might be a possibility.

    Winner: Thiago Motta

The Italian veteran midfielder put in a sensational performance, 2 touch football at its finest. One of the more higher rated players as per whoscored,  he appeared to be following a specific role from the former Sevilla coach. Constantly hovering about the pitch providing a viable option for teammates he kept the ball moving with minimal time and touches, showcasing his class on the ball, which he honed at Barcelona's famed youth academy, "La masia" in which he played 96 times for the first team under the tutelage of Frank Rijkaard. He registered 5 tackles against arsenal bettered only by Arsenals Ramsey, and was a key factor to PSG's dominance across the middle third of the field. Motta also registered a key pass, expertly finding Blaise matuidi between the lies in the build up to the opening goal. PSG may be investing and firmly moving with youth towards future goals of European success, but Thiago Motta has shown he has a lot to offer to this growing PSG team as Unai Emery continues to mould the team to his liking. There is potential in Paris, but like Arsenal improvements will be welcomed sooner rather than later.
