Is the Premier League still regarded as "the best league in the world"?

The statement of the Premier League being "the best league in the world" is said by almost everyone involved in football, whether that be professionals, pundits or fans, but is the Premier League really a better footballing league than the likes of La Liga, Serie A, the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 who make up the 5 powerhouse leagues in football today.

Yes, the Premier league is the most exciting and competitive league as you have 7 big teams all battling for the Premier League silverware every year compared to the other leagues where they have one team that normally just walks it every year. And who would have thought that last season, 5000/1 favourites Leicester City, who were tipped for relegation at the start of that season, could do the unthinkable and become champions of England? I certainly didn't.

The English Premier League is the oldest and most watched football league in the world, and the one with the highest revenues from tv rights. It is also currently ranked second league in Europe according to UEFA rankings behind the Spanish league, La Liga. Because the Premier League is the most watched football league in the world, it therefore makes the league the most markatable from a business perspective and will attain global awareness and following. Manchester United are an example as they are hugely popular in the Asian market and a large number of their followers are from Asian countries as the Premier League is the most marketed and televised around the world.

5 English teams have won the UEFA Champions League with a total of 12 titles. Liverpool, with 5 titles, is the most successful English club in this competition. Manchester United have 3, Nottingham Forrest with 2, Aston Villa with 1 and Chelsea with 1. However when it comes to La Liga, Real Madrid and Barcelona have won a total of 15 UEFA Champions Leagues, the most important continental competition for clubs, more than any other country. Real Madrid is the most successful
club in the history of the Champions League with 10 titles while Barcelona have 5.

Whether the Premier League is the best league in the world is a controversial subject, but how can the best league in the world arguably not even have 1 of the top 10 players in the world? And the Premier League certainly isn't best for ticket prices either when the price of a match day ticket for Liverpool to see the likes of Milner, Moreno and Mignolet is £77 but you can buy a season ticket to see stars such as 5 time Ballon D'or winner Lionel Messi, Suarez and Neymar for just £73. Furthermore, comparing the Premier League to the Bundesliga, you can buy a Byern Munich season ticket for £105 who are a dominant force not only in their country, but in the whole of Europe, however for an Arsenal season ticket who have renamed the fourth place position in the league "Arsenal's place" in the last however many seasons, it costs £1,200.

The Premier league has had some of the worlds best players grace the league in past years and can still attract  world class players today with the likes of Ibrahimovic and Pogba head over to the Premier League  but it always seems that the best players are tempted by big money moves to giant clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid, just look at what happened with Ronaldo, Suarez and Bale. However, the team of the year is soon to be announced, which is normally bursting with La Liga aces, but will this year prove that the so called "best league in the world" has players great enough to get in that team of the year squad?
