Premier League Match day 18 Preview

Premier League Match day 18 Preview

Match day 18 officially gets underway on Boxing day and finishes on Thursday the 28th December, it is an action packed day of Premier League Football with eight games being played across the day and two more to come in two days.

    Watford v Crystal Palace

The first game on Boxing day sees Watford take on struggling Crystal Palace at Vicarage Road in the day's early kick off.

It is the sides first meeting since their FA Cup Semi-Final last season, in a game Palace won 2-1.

Watford have lost their last two league games and also not scored in their last two games and will certainly hope to put that stat to bed when they face a Palace defence on Boxing day, that is only worse to Swansea and Hull in the league this season.

Watford will certainly take encouragement from last home game when they won 3-2 in an entertaining game against Everton on December 10th.

For Palace, after Saturday's 1-0 loss to leaders Chelsea, it meant Palace slumped to an eighth defeat in their last ten games.

The pressure is on Alan Pardew as his side defensively recently have been shocking conceding thirteen goals in their last six matches.

Another defeat for the Eagles could see slide into the drop zone if results from teams below go against them.

    Score Predicition: 2-1

    Arsenal v West Brom

After two straight league defeats, Arsenal will be hoping they can get back to winning ways against Tony Pulis's baggies side.

Arsenal will be hoping Shkodran Mustafi is back in the defence as he has been a big miss in the side and when he has played Arsenal have not lost a game in any competition.

West Brom are a side, quietly going about their business this season. Saloman Rondon has been a big player for them this season as his seven goals have helped the Baggies in eighth position and his recent turn in form could be key if his side are to claim a first win at the Emirates in six and a half years.

    Score Predicition: 2-0

    Burnley v Middlesbrough

The two top from the Championship last season face off at Turf Moor, with both sides needing the points to move away and steer clear away from the dropzone.

the home side's home form is going to be a key part of their season and games against sides in and around the bottom of the table will be vital if the Clarets are to stay up.

Burnley at home have picked wins against Watford, Everton, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth this season and will want to claim a solid Middlesbrough as their next victims.

Middlesbrough this season have been good at the back and not too bad going forward and that has the story of them under Aitor Karanka.

For the first time this season Middlesbrough scored three times as they beat Swansea at the Riverside last time out, thanks to goals from Alvaro Negredo and Marten de Roon.

With Negredo starting to hit form and with Middlesbrough having a good record against sides below in the table like winning against Hull,Swansea and Sunderland and taking draws against Leicester and Crystal Palace the game could either way

    Score Predicition: 1-1

    Chelsea v Bournemouth

What can be said about Chelsea at the moment that hasn't already been said, 12 straight wins and just two goals conceding, you can't help but say this looks an impossible task for Bournemouth to get anything from this game.

The Chelsea will certainly have in the back of their minds, what happened last year at Stamford Bridge when Bournemouth grabbed all three points thanks to a Glenn Murray got Bournemouth a famous win over the Champions last year.

While Chelsea have been immense at the back recently, it is the complete opposite for Bournemouth the have conceded four goals in four of their last five games and will certainly need to tighten up their defence against this Chelsea team.

However, the blues will be without influential players in top scorer Diego Costa and N'Golo Kante

One thing Bournemouth do have is a goalscoring threat and can potentially hurt Chelsea with players like Callum Wilson, Josh King and Jordon Ibe potentially causing problems to the Chelsea defence.

Chelsea certainly will be favourites to make it thirteen wins in a row

    Score Predicition: 2-1

    Leicester v Everton

The old Leicester City seemed to come back on Saturday, 2-0 down with 10 men and they come back to draw 2-2 at the Britannia Stadium.

Leicester have found wins hhard to come by this season and face an Everton who have won just 2 out of their last 10 games so both sides need a win respectively.

Leicester will be without Jamie Vardy after his debateable at Stoke on the weekend meaning he will miss this game and West Ham at home.

Everton will hope they can come into this game at the King Power with a good result under their belt against Merseyside rivals Liverpool.

    Socre Predicition: 1-2

    Manchester United v Sunderland

After their recent godd form, many people will be expecting Man United to brush off Sunderland at Old Trafford.

The game sees David Moyes return to Old Trafford for the first time since his sacking in April 2014.

His Sunderland side come into this game off the back of a win against Watford thanks to solitary goal from Patrick van Aanholt.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are starting to turn draws into much needed wins and have won their last three games on the bounce and their summer signings in Pogba, Mkhitaryan and Ibrahimovic starting to look good and strong.

    Score Predicition: 3-0

    Swansea v West Ham

A win for West Ham will surely see them away from the dropzone and defeat for Swansea could lead them closer to the dreaded drop.

Swansea at the back need to improve massively if they are to survive, under Bob Bradley, Swansea have conceded 25 goals in just 10 games, meaning they have conceded more than two game since he has been in charge.

Swansea have won massive games in their last two home games, beating Crystal Palace in the game of the season and won 3-0 against Sunderland, in which they kept their first clean sheet under Bob Bradley.

West Ham since getting thumped 5-1 by Arsenal at home, West Ham have had their three best results of all the season, drawing away at Liverpool and winning 1-0 against both Burnley and Hull, two sides near them in the bottom half of the table.

So since the board gave Bilic backing, the players have rallied together and got massive results on the pitch.

With the way both sides have defended this season, the scoreline could be absolutely anything and you would think there is a strong possibility that the game could have a lot of goals.

    Score Prediction: 2-3

    Hull v Manchester City

The evening kick off is at the KCOM Stadium, where bottom of the table Hull face second place Manchester City, who can't afford to slip up against the Tigers.

After two consecutive defeats to Chelsea and Leicester, the pressure was cranked up on Pep Guardiola, but the Spaniard has responded with two wins against Watford and huge win against Arsenal on Sunday.

Manchester City are not quite the same side that started the season in unbelievable fashion winning six games on the trot, but you feel that they are soon due to a give a team a good thumping and that could Mike Phelan's Hull.

Mike Phelan's Hull have found the Premier League very difficult since they won the opening two games of the season.

They have lost crucial games recently against Middlesbrough and West Ham, and the odds are stacked against Hull to get a positive result against Man City.

    Score Prediction: 0-3

    Liverpool v Stoke

The highest Premier League scorers with 40 goals, will look to bag more goals as they face Mark Hughes's Stoke.

Liverpool are a side who love to attack and Stoke on some occasions this season have shown to be vulnerable on the counter-attack.

Stoke are a team very inconsistent, and you never know which Stoke side will turn up.

If Liverpool play they like they have for most of the season, they could batter Stoke but Stoke recently have tightened up and will hard to beat

    Score Predicition: 2-0

    Southampton v Tottenham

Mauricio Pochettino returns back to St.Mary's with his Spurs side, hoping to beat his old side.

Spurs may have been unbeaten for the first 12 games, but some of the team's performances were getting questioned.

Recently though after comfortable wins over Swansea and Hull they look they have rediscovered the way they play, but their flowing attacking football will be hard to play against Claude Puel's solid Southampton side.

Claude Puel's Southampton side are a hard to team to beat and with a solid foundation at the back, which they build upon any team on their day could struggle against Southampton.

Puel's style is one quite similar to one Pochettino had at Southampton in his 18 months in charge, excpet the saints under Pochettino were slightly bretter going forward.

Harry Kane and Virgil van Dijk will certainly be a tough tussle between two top level players and will be interesting to see who comes out on top.

This is the one game where it is so hard to call which way it could go and the toughest match of the round to decide a result.

    Score Predicition: 1-1
