    Man Utd 1 - 1 Liverpool

Zlatan Ibrahimovic's late header rescued a point for Manchester United in a thrilling encounter with title challengers Liverpool.

Liverpool were encouraged after watching Man City being thrashed 4-0 by Everton, and kept a good shape in the opening 20 minutes, United's first real opening coming when Paul Pogba was played in with a golden chance one on one with Mignolet, but scuffed his shot horribly wide.

And it got worse for the world's most expensive player as he strangely handled the ball from a Liverpool corner to gift them a penalty after 26 minutes, with James Milner cooly stepped up and smashed past David De Gea.

United responded well, Henrikh Mikitrayan and Ibrahimovic both bringing superb saves by Simon Mignolet, who had another solid game.

After half time the visitors continued to hold United, who piled on the pressure but still could not find a way through.

Liverpool brought on Phillepe Coutinho and he was a constant threat as he ran rings around the hosts defence, and Jurgen Klopp's team had a great chance to double their lead after a swift counter attack, however Georginio Wijnaldum's diving header went over.

That miss proved costly, as 6 minutes from time Antonio Valencia reacted quickest to Maroune Fellaini's header hitting the post, playing it back to the big Swede who headed in the equaliser.

Surprisingly through, it was Liverpool who looked more likely to win it, and they had another chance to do after poor play at the back from United, as Emre Can played in Wijnaldum but the Dutchman's shot was tame and easy for De Gea as both sides were forced to settle for a point and a result that does neither for either team's aspirations.

The game was also notable for the debut of 18-year old right back Trent Alexander-Arnold for Liverpool, and the young defender gave a decent display. He is the nephew of Manchester United's club secretary, and he would have been impressed after the youngster's promising debut.

MAN OF THE MATCH - Dejan Lovren (Liverpool)

The Croatian defender may have not been able to prevent United from saving a draw, but his overall performance was consistent, as he intercepted several through ball attempts, was strong in the air from set pieces and was a nightmare for Paul Pogba from Liverpool's corner, one of which led to their opening goal.

MAN UTD: De Gea, Valencia, Jones, Rojo, Darmian (Fellaini 76), Herrera, Carrick (Rooney 45), Pogba, Mikhitaryan, Ibrahimovic, Martial (Mata 65)

LIVERPOOL: Mignolet, Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Klavan, Milner, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Can, Firmino, Origi (Coutinho 61), Lallana
